Credit Team Leader

WEX Europe is a leading provider of Fuel cards. We manage a range of flexible fuel cards in several key markets across the continent and has an exciting opportunity for a talented Senior Credit Analysts / Team Leads to join our Credit team at the Headquarters in Crewe. You will be one of three Credit Risk Team Leads overseeing the Vetting and Monitoring functions that are merging as Credit Risk Teams, managing 2-4 countries each, within each team having 4-5 employees.

The Credit Risk Team are responsible for underwriting all applications across 8 issuing countries in Europe, assessing and measuring the risk of extending Credit to all applicants.

As well as, monitoring Customers spend against their authorized Credit limits, understanding changes in volumes, customers’ needs and reassessing for increases to Credit limits. Our portfolio covers a wide range of business types and sizes from small enterprises to large corporate businesses and institutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operational management, leading and development of the Credit Risk Teams
  • Management and ownership of the application process by Country and monitoring Credit limits by Country, promoting Commercial awareness and decision making whilst managing risk in line with the Country bad debt levels
  • Accountable for Country and team level performance, including efficiency, effectiveness and internal stakeholder relationships
  • Setting and driving Country, Team and individual targets
  • Monitoring high risk customers and management of exposure position
  • Overtrade management where the customer’s exposure can rapidly change
  • Lead continuous improvement in key areas of focus;
    • Communications and Customer management between Credit and Account managers
    • Country Specialist teams – developing Country knowledge, expertise and relationships
    • Country Credit Policy audit reviews – bad debt analysis
  • Strong engagement with Business objectives and goals
  • Maintain and develop business reporting and audit controls
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with all Credit teams, Sales teams and CM Teams
  • Assist Credit Managers with originating and delivering new ideas & solutions to improve customer experience and team productivity
  • Involvement in wider development projects as Credit representative
  • Accountable for adherence to best practice relating to processes and procedures, managing and implementing continuous improvement of the function
  • Maintain a strong focus, with team leadership, on team development, through coaching, training and mentoring, including customer, process, system, business and product
  • Some international travel may be required
  • Drive strong and open communication throughout team and across all stakeholders

Minimum Required Qualifications & Experience for Consideration:

  • Knowledge of underwriting in European Countries in a B2B environment
  • Knowledge of assessing company financial statements – balance sheets, P&L statements
  • Ability to mentor, develop & improve skills of others
  • Extensive, professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to maintain co-operative and effective working relationships
  • Senior relationship management & presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications & Experience for Consideration:

  • Senior Analyst / Team Leader experience
  • Experience within payment cards and / or Fuel Card Industry
  • Experience of leading through change
  • Experience in developing processes and procedures
